This year, so many of our students went from “I’m just bad at maths” to genuinely believing they can do it. 🎓
And honestly? That shift never gets old.
It’s almost the end of the school year — and what a year it’s been. The “I finally get it!” moments. The tests that came back a little better than the last. The kids who arrived unsure and grew, week by week, into more confident problem-solvers.
This week, we’re celebrating that progress — and the families who showed up, again and again, to make it happen.
Tell us in the comments 👉 what’s one thing your child is proud of in maths this year? 💬
To every Meta-Maths family — thank you for trusting the process. 💛

"Maths isn't what she hates anymore."

That sentence might not sound like much. But for a parent who watched their daughter dread every maths lesson — it's everything.

We don't start by throwing harder questions at children. We start by finding out what's made maths feel impossible, and working backwards from there.

Confidence isn't a personality trait. It's a result of understanding. And understanding is teachable.

Many children can get the right answer.

Fewer children know how to think before they answer.

One of the biggest shifts we look for isn’t faster calculations or more worksheets. It’s helping children develop the habit of slowing down, checking their thinking and making deliberate decisions.

Because in maths — and in life — confidence isn’t about answering first.

It’s about knowing why your answer makes sense.

That’s why we explicitly teach metacognitive strategies alongside maths content.

The result? Children become more thoughtful, independent and resilient learners.

If your child is capable but tends to rush, guess or rely on instinct, send me a message to find out how the Meta-Maths Method™ can help.

Every year, without fail, I hear from a parent after assessment week: “She came out and said it was okay. She surprised herself.”

Not “it was easy.” Just — she knew what to do when she got stuck.

That’s the goal. Not eliminating hard questions — giving children a reliable process so they don’t freeze when something looks unfamiliar.

Knowing the content matters. Knowing how to think under pressure matters just as much.

Wishing every family heading into assessments this week the very best. You’ve prepared more than you think. 💙

Assessment week is underway. Here’s what the night before should look like.

Not cramming. Not running through every topic. Not staying up late “just to check.”

✅ A light skim of topic headings only — no questions, just a reminder of the landscape
✅ Early dinner, something proper
✅ No screens after 8pm
✅ Bed at the normal time — sleep is when the brain files everything it’s learned
✅ Morning of: “What do you know really well that might come up today?”

That last one isn’t false reassurance. It’s a genuine cognitive warm-up. Children who start from confidence retrieve information more effectively than children who start from anxiety.

Save this. You’ll want it this week. 👆

This is one of my favourite kinds of message to receive.
Not "she got full marks." Not "she's top of the class."
Just — she doesn't dread it anymore.
That shift in how a child feels about maths changes everything. A child who walks into an assessment without dread retrieves what they know far more effectively than one who's already defeated before they start.
If your child is heading into the last stretch of assessment season feeling anxious about maths, send me a message. Even a short conversation can help you understand what's actually going on.

The most common thing I hear from children before assessments isn’t “I don’t know anything.”

It’s “I don’t know enough.”

That’s a very different problem. And it’s almost always about where their attention is — fixed on the one topic that feels wobbly, rather than the ten that are actually solid.

One of the first things I do with students at this time of year is ask them to list everything they feel confident about. Not what they’re worried about. What they know.

It doesn’t fix the gaps. But it changes the starting point — and that matters enormously when you’re walking into an exam room.

If your child is heading into assessments feeling overwhelmed, feel free to send me a message.

Worth remembering this week.

An assessment is a snapshot. One day, one set of questions, one particular version of your child.

It doesn't measure curiosity, resilience, how much they've grown this year, or what they're capable of next year.

What it does do is give you useful information — which areas feel secure, and where a bit more focus could make a real difference.

Use it as information, not a verdict.

💬 How do you help your child stay calm around assessments? Share below — other parents will thank you.

It's assessment season in Dubai, and in homes across the city right now, the anxiety is starting to build.

Here's the thing though — most of that anxiety belongs to the parents, not the children.

Kids are incredibly good at reading how we feel. If you're tense about results, they'll sense it, even if you say nothing.

This week, try swapping "have you revised?" for "what feels most solid right now?"

One question focuses on the gap. The other builds on what's already there. A child who walks into an assessment knowing what they can do performs significantly better than one who's focused on what they might get wrong.

Calm is contagious. Use that.
