Brick Potential
Having been brought up with little plastic bricks, I understood the value and possibilities in playing and building with Lego. After gaining my Bachelor in Education and having my own class I was looking for an activity tool that could allow students to communicate their creativity while offering opportunities to develop skills in problem solving, design, refining and essentially engineering solutions for purposes to develop understanding. It wasn't until I observed and assessed my students and my own kids engage with Lego that I realised what Mathematical, Scientific and Engineering concepts Lego provide. Then there was the language of Lego, students seemed to develop their own way of talking and communicating about what they were constructing or what they wanted when scratching and searching through a litter of Lego. “I’m looking for a flat Two by four piece”, “has anyone got a long 8 brick?”, “ I need a grey wheel axle, a wind screen four wide, a double 2 by 2 brick 3 bricks high”. It fostered communication through language as children had to explain their creations.
Learn With Bricks facilitates opportunities for students and children to develop skills and understanding in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths through engaging tasks, workshops. Learn With Bricks can offer building, design and digital technology coding opportunities through school incursions, weekend and holiday workshops, supporting Children’s University credit.
