Olive oil vs extra virgin olive oil 🫒
Nutrition on social media has become exhausting.
One minute seed oils are apparently toxic.
The next minute everyone is cooking with beef tallow.
So let’s cut through the noise.
Both olive oil and extra virgin olive oil come from olives.
The difference is that extra virgin olive oil is less processed and retains more of the natural plant compounds called polyphenols.
These polyphenols are linked to many of the health benefits we see in research, including heart health.
So if you have the choice, extra virgin olive oil is the better option.
That doesn’t mean regular olive oil is “bad”.
It doesn’t mean you need to throw out every other oil in your kitchen.
Nutrition doesn’t need to be this complicated.
If you’re looking for a simple, evidence based choice, extra virgin olive oil is a great one to keep in your pantry. 👍
Do you need a vitamin C supplement?
For most people... probably not.
🫑Half a capsicum.
🥝 One kiwi fruit.
🍓 Eight strawberries.
🥦 One cup of cooked broccoli.
Each of these provides around (or more than) the average adult’s daily vitamin C requirements.
That’s why, if you’re regularly eating fruit and vegetables, a vitamin C supplement is unlikely to make a meaningful difference to your health.
Don’t get me wrong. Vitamin C is important.
It helps support immune function, wound healing and the production of collagen.
But more isn’t always better.
Before spending money on another supplement, it might be worth looking at what’s already on your plate.
