I think one of the saddest parts about loving someone struggling with alcohol or addiction…
is how slowly survival mode starts feeling normal.
You stop questioning it.
You stop recognising it.
And instead, you start thinking:
“This is just who I am now.”
Anxious.
Overwhelmed.
Always on edge.
Unable to relax.
Meanwhile…
your world quietly starts getting smaller too.

That takes you out of the moments that matter most.
First steps.
Cuddles.
Goals scored.

A missed glance that said “I need you”
This is the heart break.
When you are slipping away from your children, and into the spiral of addiction.
And you aren’t even the one with the addiction.
