Edge North Harbour recently welcomed Googabinj, a proud Ghungalu man from Central Queensland. ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ

Googabinj shared his culture, traditions, and stories with warmth and pride, inviting our children into a world of language, movement, and connection to Country.

We learned that Googabinj is the traditional name for the bush turkey, explored the unique colours of the bird, and discovered how those colours are reflected in the Aboriginal flag. The children were introduced to words and greetings from his traditional language, and loved practising "Binbee Yilan" (good morning) together.

We also got moving! The children hopped like kangaroos and swam like fish, bringing culture to life through storytelling and play.

Thank you to Googabinj for so generously sharing your knowledge and culture with us.

National Reconciliation Week ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

This week we reflect, learn and grow togetherโ€”exploring the rich cultures, stories and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

At Edge Marsden, Miss Simone brought in coconuts for the children to explore. Together, they felt the rough outer texture, talked about how coconuts grow, and discovered how every part of the coconut can be used โ€” the water, the flesh, and the shell. A truly sustainable resource!

It was a wonderful, sensory-rich experience to expand on the children's sense of taste, touch, and smell. While opening hearts and minds to the incredible diversity of cultures and foods that make up our world.
