I just finished reading an interesting article by Valentine Smith APM about "The Girl in the Forest."

This article follows the disappearance of Claudia, a young woman whose remains were located in a German forest by a private team after official police leads had dried up.

It highlights the successful 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴, a structured intuitive protocol that provided the geographical leads necessary to locate her and provide her family with closure.

Whether it's a criminal investigation or a complex business problem, relying solely on "𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑤𝑒'𝑣𝑒 𝑎𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑑𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑖𝑡" is a risk. Sometimes, you have to lean into unconventional methods to find the breakthrough.

𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗦 𝗕𝗘𝗜𝗡𝗚 “𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗧” 𝗜𝗦 𝗔 𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘

When someone goes missing, our instinct is often to search, to fix, to rescue. Mine would be no different if a loved one went missing, but what happens when the person doesn't want to be found?

For some, disappearing isn’t simply about escape. It exists in the space between survival and profound inner change; a pause from the noise, expectations and pain of the world. It may be driven by things like:

𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆- provider, CEO, parent... the expectations of life can be suffocating and the idea of disappearing, even temporarily, can feel like a relief from this psychological cage.

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. In situations involving domestic trauma or chronic emotional harm, the environment itself becomes the source of pain. Walking away may be an act of self-preservation and being found is not always a relief.

𝗔 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. From a spiritual perspective, some feel a deep call to disconnect from the relentless noise of modern life. A quiet, almost divine urge toward stillness and silence.

𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹. Stepping away from the pressures of reputation, external validation and material success can create space for a person to discover who they are when they are no longer performing for others.

In my line of work, there is a constant pull between the desire to find the missing person and the need to respect a person’s right to walk away. It’s a tough balance to strike.

As professionals, we often define success as "finding the person", but I’ve learned that a "found" status isn't the only measure of a job well done. Real success is acting with integrity- not just for the people searching, but for the person who left.

This is why I sometimes turn cases down. It isn't because I lack the tools or the skills; it’s because I’m doing what I feel is right. When we respect the "why" behind a disappearance, we honour the humanity of the person at the centre of the search.

THE 50% TRUTH RARELY SPOKEN ABOUT IN INTUITIVE INVESTIGATION

It’s a well-known, but often difficult statistic to swallow in the Intuitive Investigation arena - the accuracy rate for determining whether someone is passed or alive sits at around 50%.

It’s hard to fathom, especially when the energy of someone alive feels so distinctly different from someone who has passed. For me, the energy of the living is dense, heavy, grounded and full of movement - the rise and fall of the chest, the eyes that see and follow. In contrast, the energy of someone who has passed feels light, floaty, soft, transparent and very still. So how could we possibly misread something that feels so unmistakably different?

Frustratingly it happens. There have been times when I’ve sensed someone had passed, only to learn they were alive and times when I’ve felt the opposite. It’s a consistent statistic and I see it time and time again in every training I’ve attended or facilitated.

So what makes this aspect of intuitive work so challenging? There are a few reasons with these being the most common:

➡️ The person doesn’t want to be found and the energy or information can be distorted.
➡️ They’re in shock and have temporarily left their body, though still alive.
➡️ They’ve passed suddenly or traumatically and don’t yet realise they’ve passed.

With time and focus things do become clearer, but ultimately, until a person is found, certainty isn’t possible and that’s why I tread very carefully when it comes to sharing my impressions about life or death. To me, the potential emotional impact on families is too great to risk being wrong.

My focus remains on what matters most and that is location. That’s where I put my attention and energy. The rest I leave to the police and those involved in the search.

THE BITTERSWEET JOURNEY OF BRINGING LOVED ONES HOME

People often ask me about success rates in intuitive investigations for missing persons cases. It’s an understandable question- when someone you love is missing, you want reassurance before investing your time, energy and resources.

The reality is, every case is unique. There are too many variables for guarantees or quote statistics with certainty.

What I can promise, however, is my absolute commitment to supporting you in your search. I am all in, whether that means losing sleep trying to identify a potential landmark, devising new ways of receiving information to shed more light on the location or sharing every detail I receive, no matter how small, in the hope that it becomes the missing piece that leads you closer to your loved one.

When a person is found, sometimes tragically having passed, the moment is always bittersweet. There is sorrow, but also relief and closure. In a recent case, I had the privilege of working closely with a family to help bring their son home. While heartbreaking, it allowed them to finally have the answers they had been searching for. At least some of them anyway.

For me, this work is never about statistics, it’s about people, families and the hope of bringing loved ones home.
