The long-derelict Berkeley Living retirement village in Patterson Lakes could be forcibly sold in a landmark Supreme Court decision before Christmas, finally ending nearly a decade of decay, fires and frustration for local residents. The hazardous former retirement village is one spark away from tragedy and a fire damaging neighbouring properties, where young children play beneath a collapsing roofline and a favourable court decision, must result in pressure being put onto the state government to immediately demolish the site prior to marketing the sale.
The Berkeley Living retirement village was forced closed in 2017 by state government agency Consumer Affairs Victoria, who are now responsible for forcing the sale to compensate previous unit owners (including some left abandoned in their beds) or their beneficiaries. I labelled the village a 'cesspool for crime' two years after its closure when I took the photos then in 2019 for the Mordialloc Chelsea Leader front page. As a councillor in 2022, I won support with a notice of motion to advocate to the Minister and state MP to progress their intervention and support to demolish the village.
Patterson River has a picturesque setting that has been disrupted by this ugly eyesore for almost a decade, which has become the ire of residents who have grown fatigued by the fires, graffiti and accumulating rubbish. It is time to mobilise the bobcat!

☀️Mere moments from Mordialloc and 230m from the waves of Aspendale beach, priced $1,400,000 - $1,500,000 are these coastal townhouses. Astute purchasers can get in early ahead of practical completion in a couple weeks at 2 Anchor Street, enjoying the benefits of a pre-settlement building inspection and a new home warranty. Approximately, a quarter of sales are conducted without formal advertising and I have new homes located across metro-Melbourne. I am considering bringing my social media network to life in real estate, if vendors would like to get more eyes on their home or projects. SMS 0417 112 784. Edit: 2b Anchor Street (right) was sold for $1,430,000 🤗

👋Live in Carrum, Patterson Lakes or Bonbeach? Here is an update on recent government investment. Councillor Chris Howe (left) secured $25 million in funding through advocacy to the federal MP, Jodie Belyea at Thompson Road, Patterson Lakes that is expected to be further reviewed to ease congestion. The City of Kingston through myself had previously written to the Department of Transport in support of widening the single-lane Thompson Road bridge, with improved freeway connectivity for westbound traffic and this has been a point of discussion.
Investment at the McLeod Road, Carrum intersection will see $3 million spent to improve safety, manage congestion and improve performance. This will include construction of a new left-turn lane from Station Street into McLeod Road, two right-turn lanes onto Nepean Highway and improved directional signage.
Both arterials are classified as 'state roads' and local government investment in roads and associated car parking, will include the Dyson Road entrance to Roy Dore Reserve being constructed as a sealed road. Meanwhile, future car park upgrades include the Carrum Activity Centre in Valetta Street; in addition to at the riverside northern and unsealed southern Carrum foreshore car parks.
Deputy Mayor, Chris Howe is shown here at Bonbeach Reserve with an AccessCare 'delivered meals' volunteer at a recent appreciation day, and this update is intended to focus on roads and car parking. Kingston Your City distributed to households seasonally is a printed publication, with the next iteration expected to hit letterboxes shortly including Chris' news column 📰
