Imagine waking up on a day called ‘Mother’s Day’ without your chosen family. Imagine putting your deepest love and life into those that you hold dear, and losing them. Imagine no one acknowledging your grief and fear. Imagine not being able to provide safety for your family.

In Gaza, Sudan, Congo, Ukraine, Lebanon, Iran, Myanmar, Somalia, Syria, this country’s First Nations People and First Nations People around the world, trans people all over the world, those living below the poverty line, those incarcerated; this is what is happening today and every day.

It is equally important to celebrate our nurturers, carers and teachers. Make them a delicious breakfast and give them something you made or grew yourself. We can and we should celebrate them, but this one beautiful life belongs to everyone. Don’t stop talking about genocide, family violence, trans-violence, disability-violence, and femicide. Celebrate your nurturers AND keep protesting, donating, signing petitions, writing letters, talking to friends and colleagues about how none of us is free until all of us are free. 🧡
