What a year it has been! We started the year testing at Phillip Island which then turned to convincing my Dad and Shane to come out of retirement to help me make it to Round 1 of ASBK. We straight away found really good pace and I feel that test was probably the best I had ever ridden in my life.

We arrived to Round one of Asbk with a small family team and 1 bike ready to give it everything - a one last chance kind of deal! Unfortunately, it only lasted until turn 2 in race one as I got taken out by another rider. I had some minor injuries at the time that ruled us out of the weekend, but days later the concussion symptoms set in and for months after the crash I struggled a lot with post concussion syndrome.

Over the last few years the concussions seem to happen more easily and the effects last longer. So this time I decided maybe I do need to step away and actually let my brain heal and for the first time in a long time Iโ€™m starting to feel good.

Racing is like a drug, youโ€™re always looking for the next adrenaline hit and you always want more. So Tayla being selected for the WorldWCR gave me the chance to take a new role. Being on a small budget, it wasnโ€™t possible to be backed by a team in Europe so we had to take on the challenge ourselves. In a way, this was perfect for me as I was able to put everything Iโ€™ve learnt throughout my years of racing into something new. Diving head first into a new challenge.

The results steadily improved all season as Tayla learned the way and also as my skills developed to understand what she needed and how the bike worked. I did everything I possibly could to learn quickly in this role and give our little Aussie team a chance. I had some really good people behind me on speed dial when I had questions as Iโ€™m definitely not scared to ask questions and soak in as much information as possible.

It was great to find a role this season that could still give me that buzz and the drive of working towards a goal. Tayla absolutely rose to the occasion this year pushing her way to be a genuine front runner against some seriously fast and experienced riders.

I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone that backed me at the start of this season and although I am disappointed how my season ended Iโ€™m very proud of what myself and Tayla achieved.
