Typical Girls has birthed a new band!

Made up of members from Rounds 1 and 2 of the punk program, Broad Knife pump out pushy punk with all the rage of five crones in a cage.

On a beautiful evening at CERES, the voices of the Just Holler Choir joined the Typical Girls guitar ensemble - two electric, seven acoustic, and one bass - to rehearse our show paying tribute to the women of Britpop. One week to go!

We are so excited to be collaborating with indie/pop choir, Just Holler, to honour the incredible women of Brit Pop!

We couldn’t wrap up Round 2 of the Typical Girls Punk Program without extending our warmest thanks to TP director Rachel Wilson and mentors Kirsty Letts, Fionn Elwood, and Connie Ogan for their unwavering guidance and support.

Diving into this program is a lot. From meeting new band members, to learning new instruments - in many cases from scratch - to writing three original songs, to performing them live, all in SEVEN WEEKS, is not for the faint of heart.

Our participants were brave, bold, nervous, committed, and sometimes unsure, but above all, they were resilient. They embraced the uncertainty and pushed through self-doubt to finally step into their power. Watching them grow as musicians and as individuals has been nothing short of inspiring. Our mentors were there for all of it.

To our incredible participants, thanks for showing up, taking risks, and creating music together, and for proving that IT’S NEVER, EVER TOO LATE!

‘The Band Formerly Known as Here Kitty Kitty’ has all the intrigue of a magic trick performed by a kitten. Charming, talented, and leaving you in awe as to how the drummer and bass player briefly disappeared before reappearing to play each other’s instrument. 😮🪄
