End of Financial Year is usually hectic enough, settlements this side of the financial year, reverse adjustments of rates & taxes falling just past, but this EOFY, a new legislation starting from the 1st July was added to the mix!

Compliance training in the background, many webinars, updates to templates and documents to meet AML & CTF requirements, and new processes to adapt the business to.

It's been a learning curve for all of us involved! 📝

AML (Anti-Money Laundering) & CTF (Counter-Terrorism Financing) takes effect for Conveyancers from 1st July 2026 under new Australian Laws.

It's been standard practice for Conveyancers to verify their client's identities as part of the conveyancing processes along with obtaining certain information and signed authority forms.

In line with new legislation, extra information will now need to be asked of clients and certain verifications will need to be completed before any work can begin on the matter.

Further information that will be included with client onboarding will include the following:

📌 Source of funds (Personal savings, bank finance, super, etc)

📌 The purpose of the transaction

📌 Occupation

Further information will be provided to clients.

🏠 Real Estate Agents will also be required to verify their client's identities so there will be a couple verifications to complete during the buying and selling process.

One thing I enjoy about offering in home visits when needed is being welcomed into my elderly client's homes to help make the conveyancing process as easy as possible for them.
