INTRODUCTION

One of the greatest characteristics of a genuine Christian is resilience. The Christian journey was never promised to be free from storms. Our Lord Jesus Himself declared that in this world we would experience tribulation, but He also assured us that He has overcome the world.

Resilience is not merely the ability to survive difficult times; it is the God-given strength to remain faithful, obedient, hopeful, and joyful even when life becomes painful. A resilient Christian refuses to abandon Christ because of suffering. Instead, trials deepen their faith, purify their character, and strengthen their relationship with God.

The world often measures strength by physical power, wealth, influence, or popularity. God measures strength differently. Heaven calls a believer strong when they continue trusting God despite tears, disappointments, unanswered prayers, persecution, and hardships.

Tonight, God is calling every believer to become spiritually resilient.

What Is Christian Resilience?

Christian resilience is the spiritual endurance that enables a believer to remain faithful to God regardless of opposition, suffering, temptation, disappointment, or delay.

It is the grace to:

- Stand when others fall.
- Believe when circumstances seem impossible.
- Continue praying when answers seem delayed.
- Continue serving when unnoticed.
- Continue loving when rejected.
- Continue obeying when obedience is costly.

True resilience is not human determination alone; it is the strength supplied by God.

Isaiah reminds us that those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. This means our resilience is continually renewed by God's presence.

Why Every Devout Christian Needs Resilience

1. Because trials are unavoidable.

Jesus never promised an easy road. Every faithful believer will experience seasons of testing.

The apostles suffered persecution.

Joseph suffered betrayal.

David experienced rejection.

Daniel faced the lions' den.

Paul endured imprisonment.

Above all, Jesus endured the cross.

If these faithful servants encountered hardship, we should not be surprised when difficulties come our way.

2. Trials refine our faith.

Gold becomes purer through fire.

Likewise, faith becomes stronger through testing.

Many believers discover the greatness of God only after walking through painful valleys.

Without trials, many spiritual virtues would remain undeveloped.

3. Resilience glorifies God.

When believers remain faithful during suffering, the world witnesses God's sustaining grace.

Anyone can praise God during prosperity.

Only resilient believers continue worshipping Him during adversity.

Such faith brings glory to God's name.

**Characteristics of a Resilient Christian

# A heart anchored in God's Word

- God's promises become their foundation.

- They trust Scripture above emotions.

# A consistent prayer life

- Prayer becomes their source of strength.

- They seek God before seeking human solutions.

- # Unwavering faith

- They refuse to measure God's goodness by temporary circumstances.

- Instead, they believe God's promises even before seeing visible answers.

# Holy perseverance

- They continue serving God faithfully regardless of recognition.

- They remain committed when others become discouraged.

# Joy despite suffering

-Christian joy does not depend upon comfort.

- It flows from confidence that Christ remains Lord over every situation.

** Enemies of Christian Resilience

# Discouragement

-The enemy often whispers:

- "God has forgotten you."

- Yet Scripture assures us that God never abandons His children.

# Fear

- Fear weakens faith.

- Faith overcomes fear by focusing on God's power instead of circumstances.

# Sin

- Persistent sin drains spiritual strength.

- Holiness strengthens resilience.

# Isolation

- Believers need fellowship.

- Encouragement from fellow Christians strengthens endurance.

# Spiritual laziness

- Neglecting prayer, Bible study, and worship weakens the believer.

- Daily communion with God renews spiritual strength.

** Biblical Examples of Resilience

-Job

Though he lost wealth, children, and health, Job refused to curse God.

His faith remained steadfast.

God eventually restored him abundantly.

-Joseph

Betrayed by his brothers.

Sold into slavery.

Falsely accused.

Imprisoned.

Yet he remained faithful.

Eventually, God elevated him to save nations.

- Daniel

Daniel refused to compromise his faith despite the threat of death.

God shut the mouths of lions.

- Apostle Paul

He endured beatings, imprisonment, shipwrecks, hunger, rejection, and hardship.

Yet he declared,

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

- Jesus Christ

The greatest example of resilience.

He endured betrayal.

He endured rejection.

He endured false accusations.

He endured suffering.

He endured the cross.

Because He remained obedient, God highly exalted Him.

** How to Build Spiritual Resilience

- Spend time with God every day.
- Fill your heart with Scripture.
- Pray continually.
- Obey God even when it is difficult.
- Trust God's timing.
- Refuse bitterness.
- Maintain gratitude.
- Walk in forgiveness.
- Surround yourself with godly believers.
- Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.

Resilience grows through consistent fellowship with God.

**The Rewards of Resilience

God promises many blessings to those who endure faithfully.

- Spiritual maturity.
- Greater wisdom.
- Deeper peace.
- Stronger faith.
- Divine promotion.
- Eternal rewards.
- Greater usefulness in God's Kingdom.
- An incorruptible crown of glory.

Every trial faithfully endured prepares us for greater glory.

** Practical Lessons

- Temporary pain should never produce permanent unbelief.
- God's silence is not God's absence.
- Every delay has divine purpose.
- Every storm has an appointed end.
- Every faithful believer will ultimately rejoice.
- God never wastes the tears of His children.

**Call to Commitment

- Tonight, perhaps you have grown weary.

- Perhaps unanswered prayers have discouraged you.

- Perhaps persecution has weakened your spirit.

- Perhaps disappointments have shaken your confidence.

**God says to you this evening:

- "Do not give up."

- Your breakthrough may be closer than you imagine.

- Your heavenly Father sees every tear.

- He hears every prayer.

- He remembers every act of faithfulness.

- Remain steadfast.

- Remain holy.

- Remain prayerful.

- Remain hopeful.

The same God who strengthened Joseph, Daniel, Paul, and countless faithful believers will strengthen you also.

**Conclusion

Resilience is not the absence of hardship but steadfast faith in the presence of hardship. The devout Christian does not escape every storm but is sustained by God through every storm.

May we become believers whose faith cannot be shaken, whose hope cannot be extinguished, whose love cannot grow cold, and whose devotion remains steadfast until we see our Lord face to face.

**Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your living Word. Grant us resilient hearts that remain faithful through every trial. Strengthen the weak, encourage the discouraged, heal the brokenhearted, and renew our hope. Help us to trust You when we cannot see the way, to obey You when obedience is costly, and to persevere until the end. May our lives bring glory to Your holy name, and may we never depart from the faith once delivered to the saints. Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all, now and forevermore. Amen.

THE GENUINE SUBMISSION

A Christian Sermon

Main Text: James 4:7 — “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Introduction

One of the greatest challenges in the Christian life is genuine submission to God. Many believers desire God's blessings, favor, protection, and power, yet struggle with surrendering completely to His will. Genuine submission is not merely outward obedience; it is the heartfelt surrender of one's entire life to the lordship of Jesus Christ.

Submission is often misunderstood in today's world. Society views submission as weakness, loss of freedom, or surrender of personal rights. However, biblical submission is an act of strength, faith, and trust. It is the pathway to divine promotion, spiritual growth, victory over sin, and intimacy with God.

The Christian life begins with submission and continues through submission. Every great servant of God was first a submitted servant before becoming a powerful instrument in God's hands.

1. What Is Genuine Submission?

Genuine submission means voluntarily yielding our will, desires, plans, ambitions, and decisions to God's authority.

It is saying:

"Lord, not my will, but Your will be done."

Jesus demonstrated perfect submission in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Luke 22:42

"Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done."

Submission is not merely hearing God's voice; it is obeying God's voice.

Many people want God as Savior but not as Lord. Genuine submission accepts both.

-Submission involves:

-Surrendering our plans

-Surrendering our emotions

-Surrendering our future

-Surrendering our relationships

-Surrendering our possessions

-Surrendering our entire life

True Christianity is not Christ helping us fulfill our will; it is Christ leading us into His will.

2. Genuine Submission Begins with Humility

Pride is the greatest enemy of submission.

James 4:6

"God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."

The proud person says:

- "I know better."

- "I will do it my way."

- "Nobody can tell me what to do."

The humble person says:

- "Lord, teach me."

- "Lord, lead me."

- "Lord, correct me."

Humility opens the door to submission because a humble heart recognizes its need for God.

Before God can elevate a person, He must first humble that person.

Examples of Humility

- Moses submitted to God's calling.

- David submitted to God's timing.

- Mary submitted to God's purpose.

- Paul submitted to God's commission.

Every spiritual giant first bowed before God.

3. Genuine Submission Requires Obedience

Submission without obedience is merely religious talk.

John 14:15

"If ye love me, keep my commandments."

Many people claim to love God but resist obeying Him when His commands conflict with personal desires.

True submission says:

- Obey when it is convenient.

- Obey when it is difficult.

- Obey when it is costly.

- Obey when nobody is watching.

Abraham provides one of the greatest examples.

When God commanded him to offer Isaac, Abraham obeyed despite not understanding the full picture.

Genesis 22:2-3

Abraham's obedience demonstrated complete trust in God.

God is not looking for partial obedience.

Partial obedience is disguised disobedience.

4. Genuine Submission Involves Trusting God's Sovereignty

Submission becomes difficult when God's plans differ from ours.

Many believers gladly submit when blessings come but struggle when trials arise.

Yet genuine submission trusts God even when circumstances seem confusing.

Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."

Faith says:

- God knows what I cannot see.

- God understands what I cannot understand.

- God is working when I cannot perceive it.

Joseph experienced betrayal, slavery, false accusation, and imprisonment. Yet he remained submitted to God.

In the end, God's purpose prevailed.

The submitted believer trusts God's wisdom above personal understanding.

5. Genuine Submission Produces Spiritual Victory

James connects submission with spiritual warfare.

James 4:7

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

Notice the order:

1. Submit to God.

2. Resist the devil.

3. The devil flees.

- Many believers attempt to resist Satan without first submitting to God.

- Authority over the enemy flows from submission to God's authority.

- Jesus defeated Satan because He lived in perfect obedience to the Father.

- The more submitted we become, the stronger we become spiritually.

- Submission is not weakness.

- Submission is spiritual strength under God's authority.

6. Genuine Submission Requires Dying to Self

One of the hardest battles is the battle against self.

Jesus taught:

Luke 9:23

"If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."

The flesh desires:

- Control

- Recognition

- Comfort

- Independence

The Spirit desires:

- Holiness

- Obedience

- Dependence upon God

Every day believers must choose:

- Will I follow my desires or God's will?

- The cross represents the death of self-rule.

- A truly submitted Christian has surrendered the throne of their heart to Christ.

7. Genuine Submission Brings Divine Promotion

God exalts those who humble themselves before Him.

1 Peter 5:6

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time."

The world says:

"Promote yourself."

God says:

"Humble yourself."

Joseph submitted in prison before ruling a nation.

David submitted as a shepherd before becoming king.

Jesus humbled Himself before receiving the name above every name.

God's pathway to greatness is submission.

8. Characteristics of a Submitted Believer

A genuinely submitted believer:

1. Loves God's Word

God's instructions become their delight.

2. Accepts Correction

They allow God to shape their character.

3. Seeks God's Will Daily

Prayer becomes a lifestyle.

4. Walks in Humility

They acknowledge their dependence upon God.

5. Serves Others

They imitate Christ's servant-hearted example.

6. Endures Trials Faithfully

They trust God's purposes during difficulties.

7. Gives God the Glory

They recognize that every blessing comes from Him.

9. The Greatest Example of Submission: Jesus Christ

No one exemplified submission more perfectly than Jesus.

Philippians 2:8

"And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."

Jesus:

- Submitted to the Father's will.

- Submitted to suffering.

- Submitted to the cross.

- Submitted to death.

Because of His submission:

- Sinners received salvation.

- The Church was established.

- Death was defeated.

- Eternal life became available.

His submission brought redemption to humanity.

Conclusion

Genuine submission is not merely a religious duty; it is the foundation of the Christian life. God does not seek occasional obedience or partial surrender. He seeks hearts that are fully yielded to Him.

Submission may cost comfort, pride, personal ambitions, and worldly approval, but it produces peace, spiritual authority, intimacy with God, victory over sin, and eternal reward.

The greatest prayer a believer can pray is:

"Lord, not my will, but Yours be done."

When we genuinely submit ourselves to God, we discover that His will is better than our plans, His wisdom is greater than our understanding, and His purposes are more glorious than anything we could ever imagine.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a humble heart. Forgive me for every area where I have resisted Your will and followed my own desires. Teach me to surrender completely to Your authority. Remove pride, self-will, and rebellion from my heart. Help me to trust You even when I do not understand Your ways. Give me the grace to obey Your Word, follow Your leading, and walk in humility before You. May my life reflect the submission of Jesus Christ, and may Your perfect will be accomplished in me. In Jesus' mighty name I pray.

Amen.
