The Australian Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology Association (ARATA) urges the NDIA to reconsider proposed pricing changes that risk access to essential Assistive Technology for NDIS participants.
ARATA is deeply concerned about the significant price reductions for Assistive Technology (AT) services announced in the recent NDIS Annual Price Review, set to commence on 1 July 2025.
These changes, including reduced funding for AT advice and a 50% reduction on travel reimbursement, pose a significant risk to the ability of NDIS participants to achieve good outcomes.
Lower price limits will make it harder for NDIS participants to access the expert AT advice needed for wheelchairs, communication aids, and other critical daily living products.
These changes will disproportionately affect individuals in regional, rural, and remote areas, as well as those who require in-home or community-based support due to their disability.
Effective AT solutions often require in-person trials and assessments, which may no longer be viable under the new pricing, compromising the quality and effectiveness of support.
ARATA believes that these changes risk the long-term value of the NDIS by limiting access to technology that empowers participants to meet their goals and fully engage in life.
ARATA urgently calls on the National Disability Insurance Agency and its Board to reconsider these pricing changes before they take effect.
