So here’s a quick reminder of what makes this event so special to us (& you)…

Conceptualised and introduced to Boorloo dancefloors in early 2016, we’ve now journeyed “In the Basement” 32 times over seven years with one goal in mind:

to create the best dancefloor experience possible.

The key ingredients to achieve this are;

1) The Basement

A small, intimate space; The Basement allows us to create the ideal vibey. It’s not too big, it’s not too small; The DJ has the power to reach everyone individually, and there’s just enough of us to feel completely unified.

2) One DJ - Playing All Night Long

In an age where most DJs are lucky to get a 1 hour set at a club night, In The Basement bucks the trend by elevating one single voice. Without the effect of having a DJ react to the selector playing before them (or warm up to the DJ playing after), giving the DJ the whole night to flex allows them to slow down, and take their time delivering us the most pure expression of their musical spirit.

3) Keeping the DJ a Mystery

The goal here to is end up with the most open-minded, musically-adventurous, friendly crowd possible. We figure if you’re willing to buy a ticket to a gig where you don’t know who’s playing, you’re probably ready for almost anything & we figure you probably trust our taste too! ;)

These kind of dancers are essential in creating a vibrant dance floor, and we think the proof is in the pudding at ITB.

This also allows us to book way more unpredictably than we can with an announced lineup. It’s allowed us to throw curveballs like Hysteric, Mayurashka & Jonny Nash; Boorloo debuts from the likes of Kia & PLO Man, as well as our absolute fav: local legends like Rok Riley, Ben M, Montana & Roza Terenzi!

4) It’s the DJ’s Night

Our guest DJ drives all creative decisions, from the flyer design right up to the decor on the night. This means that what you experience at any ITB is that DJ’s full expression!

All these ingredients work together to create what we truly believe is one of the best dance floors anywhere in the world.
