♻️ Use our scheme ID when donating to direct funds to HDNWA

Unemployment for people with disability in Australia remains almost double the rate of people without disability, 7.5% compared to 3.8%.

This gap reflects ongoing barriers that continue to limit access to meaningful work, especially in hospitality and tourism.

A Recipe for Inclusion: Autistic Jobseekers Thrive in WA’s Hospitality Industry | Autism WA Over the last four years, the Autism Association of WA’s AIM Employment program has been working alongside Hospitality Disability Network (HDN) to help Autistic jobseekers find suitable employment within WA’s tourism and hospitality industry.

As Makuru settles across Western Australia, we acknowledge the Noongar season of rain, renewal, and connection to Country. Occurring during June and July, Makuru is known as the coldest and wettest time of the year, marked by powerful weather, inland movement, and the beginning of new life as animals pair for breeding.

The landscape transforms during this season, with deep blues and purples emerging through native plants such as the Blueberry Lily and Purple Flags. Makuru reminds us of the importance of adaptability, reflection, and preparation for growth ahead.

At HDNWA, we are inspired by the lessons of the Noongar seasons and the deep knowledge they hold. As we continue working towards more inclusive hospitality, tourism, and events industries across WA, we recognise the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels connected, valued, and supported to thrive.

This Makuru, let’s reflect on how we can continue building stronger communities through inclusion, understanding, and opportunity.

Makuru — Season of Fertility :: WAITOC June to July - Makuru, the season spanning from June to July, is the coldest and wettest time of the year — aligning with winter. This is when the Noongar people would move away from the sea and head inland. Away from the cold winds that bring the wet weather.

All In for National Reconciliation Week 2026 🤝

This National Reconciliation Week, the theme is All In.

It is a reminder that reconciliation is something we all need to be part of, every day. It is not passive, and it is not the responsibility of First Nations peoples alone.

Reconciliation grows when we listen, learn, and take action in the spaces we are part of, including our workplaces and communities.

This year’s campaign, created with Carbon Creative, features artwork by Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung artist Otis Hope Carey, celebrating people coming together with shared purpose.
