Happy Occupational Therapy Week ! For me, Occupational Therapy is, at its heart, about guided discovery, advocacy and the removal of barriers for participation in meaningful occupations. But what is “occupation”? It refers to any activity, task, or role in life that brings you joy, dignity, and allows you to lead your life authentically.

This looks different for everyone, and that unique skillset in OT is something to celebrate!

This week, I’ve taken time to reflect on both my service and my own occupational participation over the past year and a half in business. Practicing as an OT is deeply meaningful to my identity and starting this service as an ND person has been a been a major success in my own occupational participation. I’m excited to continue learning and growing in this profession.

Sometimes my brain comes up with something that amuses me so much.

This was one of those things.

So we talk a bit about Proprioception (pronounced proe-pree-oh-sep-shun).

Proprioception means knowing where your body is in a space. Knowing where your limbs finish. Knowing how close you are to things. Knowing how much force to put behind movement.

Many, many neurodivergent folk have significant differences with Proprioception. Personally, my sense of proprioception is laughable.

I accidentally invented the word NOPE-RIOCEPTION to talk about these differences. Because I feel like I have no sense of that. And here’s what noprioception (probably spell it that way) looks like for me.

Slamming doors. Accidentally stomping about the house. Running into doorframes. Always dropping stuff. Turning around and running immediately into a wall. Banging my shins into furniture. Cannot catch. Flinging my arms out during conversation and accidentally whacking people. Wearing tight jeans because they help me know where my legs are.

This post is mostly for laughs.
But also, noprioception is real, haha.

Anyone else?
