Spring Hill is one of Brisbane's oldest suburbs. Its rich cultural diversity and easy walking distance to the CBD make it the perfect place to live & play.

You will have seen plenty of material in your letterboxes about the election and who to vote for this Saturday (or at pre-poll right now). While the Spring Hill Community Group is an apolitical group and is not aligned to any party, we are strongly of the view that we should do everything in our power to argue for what is right for our community. That means having a considered view when it comes to who and which political party is likely to make good decisions on our behalf. Brisbane Residents United has asked candidates to respond to a series of questions relevant to planning and development, green space and so on that we will share with you as they become available. The Spring Hill Community Group fundamentally believes that big development lobbyists should not be prioritised over the local community or our local businesses. We will be guided by Brisbane Residents United's assessment of political commitments regarding planning and development, heritage and green space and share with you what we have found. Get ready for a rant…
We are tired of the collusion; tired of developers being put first; tired of the smoke and mirrors garbage. This is not ‘progress’.
Today Labor looks like they care about 'Bad Development'– but they have been busy advising people and community groups that "these issues are council matters only". What rot. We have spent years pushing for better outcomes and we know that it is both local and State governments that lead to these poor development decisions. And where were the Labor Councillors when LNP approved the Draft Spring Hill Neighbourhood Plan for release? Absolutely silent.
Both LNP and Labor accept developer donations. Both Parties fund their election campaigns on the back of this. Make no mistake this is a conflict of interest.
What happened in Highgate Hill today is a story that keeps playing out in our area. State Government needs to fix the loopholes and Council needs to stop taking advantage of them. We demand good development and we expect our local and State Government representatives to do the right things by us.

Brisbane Times reported 500 people came along to the event yesterday - certainly seemed that many were there. What a great outcome and good media coverage to get the message out that State and Local Governments need to do better by the people who live in these communities!
