Hello everyone!
অনেকদিন পর এলাম নতুন একটি টপিক নিয়ে, তা হল Parallelism.
English লিখতে গেলে যেসব বিষয় মাথায় রাখতে হয় তার মধ্যে Parallelism খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। আমাদের গতানুগতিক গ্রামার সিলেবাসে এটা না থাকায় স্কুল / কলেজের গন্ডিতে আমরা অনেকেই Parallelism সম্পর্কে জানি না। তবে বিভিন্ন প্রতিযোগিতামূলক পরীক্ষা যেমনঃ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের Admission tests, GRE, BCS, Job recruitment tests ইত্যাদিতে Parallelism থেকে প্রায়ই প্রশ্ন থাকে। তাছাড়া Free hand writing নির্ভুল ভাবে করতে গেলে এটা খুব জরুরি।
Parallelism এর মুল rule টি খুব Easy এবং Simple.
তা হল, কোন একটি Sentence এ যদি একাধিক Phrases কিংবা Clauses থাকে তবে প্রতিক্ষেত্রে একই রকম Structure ব্যবহার করতে হবে। যেমনঃ Infinitive (To+verb) এর সাথে infinitive, Gerund (verb+ing) এর সাথে Gerund, অথবা একটিতে কোন নির্দিষ্ট Part of speech ব্যবহার হলে অন্য অংশগুলোতেও Same part of speech এর words ব্যবহার করতে হবে।
একটি উদাহরণ দেখা যাকঃ

Incorrect:
Olympic athletes usually like practicing, competing, and to eat ice cream sandwiches.

এখানে Practicing, completing এই দুইটি gerund (Verb+ing) এর সাথে শেষে Infinitive (To+Verb এর Base form) ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে, যা ভুল।
Infinitive টিকে সংশোধন করে (Verb+ ing) করলেই এটি Gerund হয়ে যায় এবং Sentence টি Correct হয়ে যাবে।

Correct :
Olympic athletes usually like practicing, competing, and eating ice cream sandwiches.

আশাকরি Rule টি বুঝতে পেরেছেন এবং পরবর্তীতে নির্ভুল ভাবে ইংরেজি লিখতে এই rule টি সহায়ক হবে।

Some common mistakes we often make, forgetting the fact that not everything that looks right is right. I've corrected some of those mistakes we often overlook..

Incorrect: "At eight years old, my father gave me a football for Eid."

Correct: "When I was eight years old, my father gave me a football for Eid ."

Incorrect: "Shila stayed home from school the other day. Because she was sick."

Correct: "Shila stayed home from school the other day because she was sick."

Incorrect: "The dad found the boy, and he was happy."

Correct: "The dad was happy when he found the boy."

Incorrect: "What reason did he come here for?"

Correct: "For what reason did he come here?"
