At Clauseph Biofuels, we believe that true sustainability lies in restoring balance—between people, planet, and progress. Our work converts invasive bush encroachment into clean, renewable biomass fuel—reviving degraded landscapes, preserving biodiversity, and powering communities with nature-positive energy solutions.
This year’s theme, “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development,” perfectly reflects our mission: building circular systems that heal ecosystems, reduce carbon footprints, and uplift rural livelihoods.
We’re proud to be —restoring harmony one clean flame at a time. 🔥🌱🌾

SECOND PRIZE WINNER
Granny Mmantho Lesiamang:
I got interested in the BE OPEN Climate Design Competition when attending the Student Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi in November 2023 as a delegate and speaker on a panel themed "fueling access to clean cooking." The competition was discussed and winners of the prior competition announced.
When I learned about the competition, I saw it as a perfect platform to showcase "The Clean Cooking Project," which aims to provide sustainable, energy-efficient cooking solutions to communities in need. I am deeply honored to have won the second prize, and I hope my journey inspires others to pursue sustainable projects.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of my life and work. As a co-founder of Clauseph Biofuels, I have seen firsthand how sustainable practices can empower communities, promote energy independence, and foster environmental stewardship. Sustainable living is not just a goal but a necessity for our future, ensuring that we leave a habitable planet for generations to come.
Competitions like the BE OPEN competition are crucial for involving students and young professionals in sustainability matters. They provide a unique opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to practical, real-world problems, fostering creativity and innovation. I encourage everyone, especially students, to participate in such initiatives, as they are invaluable opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the global sustainability movement and drive real-world change.

🌍🌿 World Environment Day 2024 🌿🌍
This year’s theme, "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience," resonates deeply with us at Clauseph Biofuels. As we celebrate World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to restoring ecosystems and promoting sustainable practices.
🔄 Ecosystem Restoration through Tackling Bush Encroachment:
Bush encroachment has severely degraded our farmlands and rangelands, leading to biodiversity loss and soil health decline. The long roots of invasive bushes deplete groundwater, exacerbating desertification. Our solution? Converting these invasive species into biofuels, restoring the land, and promoting healthier ecosystems.
🔥 Clean Cooking for Environmental Sustainability:
Deforestation and high carbon emissions from unclean cooking practices are significant environmental challenges. Our clean cooking project addresses these issues by providing energy-efficient biomass stoves, ovens and clean-burning biomass fuel. Our products reduce deforestation and carbon emissions, promoting a healthier planet and community.
Join us in our mission to combat environmental degradation and build a resilient future. Together, we can make a difference!

Our products cut across all socio-economic classes. Though where we desire to see more impact is in energy poverty, and impacting those who do not have access to clean cooking, we also get a lot of testimonials and positive feedback from those using other clean cooking alternatives like LPG gas.
"I absolutely love this stove. I have cut down on my cooking costs and my gas cylinder lasts longer than it used to. We boil water with this stove, we cook food that takes longer to cook with it, and we do it all affordably with a few briquettes. I love that in winter we can heat our house with it as well, and the briquettes produce no toxic smoke. I am glad I invested in it" (Translated from Setswana)

We spent the day yesterday in Mogojogojo/Lorwana on a community impact drive with Rre Thebeyame Ishmael Magosi. We partnered with the councillor, as a local leader who is deeply committed to youth empowerment and community impact. We also liaised with the areas' Village Development Committees (VDC) and with Mma Noi and Mma Pogiso of the Department of Social and Community Development at GoodHope District Council to identify and impact 6 suitable beneficiaries at the household level. This initiative deployed products to 6 rural women who are the heads and primary caregivers in their households, and also provided practical training and education on product use and benefit.
