⚡ Service Call – Utility Issue ⚡

Homeowner called about a GFCI making a strange noise.
On arrival, I noticed lights dimming/flickering and the stove only had power to the clock.

🔍 Testing at the main lugs inside the panel confirmed a lost phase on the utility side.

📟 Utility notified
🔧 Hydro arrived and repaired the issue at the transformer

Not every electrical problem is inside the home — proper diagnostics matter.

Troubleshot and confirmed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor.

⚡ 100A ➡️ 200A Service Upgrade – Important Code Update ⚡

This upgrade often surprises homeowners — and even some contractors who aren’t fully up to date 👇

🔧 New code now requires the meter base to have an isolated (insulated) neutral.
Older meter bases had the neutral bonded to the metal enclosure.
That is no longer permitted on a 200A service upgrade.

Why this change was made:
• Reduces stray voltage
• Prevents current on metal parts
• Improves grounding and overall safety
• Protects homeowners and utility workers

⚠️ Because of this, many existing meter bases must be replaced, even if they look fine.

✅ This is required to pass ESA + utility inspection
— it’s not an upsell, it’s code.

CHEAP WORK = EXPENSIVE PROBLEMS ⚡

Homeowner lost power to 10 receptacles after hiring a “budget” installer to put in pot lights.

What I found: A cable drilled straight through and left damaged inside the ceiling. No repair. No safety check. No accountability.

I used inspection tools and experience to locate the exact damage point, made a precise access opening, and fixed what should have never been left behind in the first place.

✅ New wiring installed
✅ Proper junction box added
✅ Power safely restored

Saving a few dollars upfront cost this homeowner months of inconvenience and a more invasive repair.

Unlicensed work isn’t cheap — it’s dangerous.

Hire licensed. Hire insured. Hire professionals.
