Meet your VP Communications: Eliana!

Eliana is dedicated to making sure you get the information you need, and stay updated on all the amazing events run by our student groups. She is always happy to help with questions about communications, so please feel free to ask when in doubt!

Before medical school, she completed her BSc in Honours Physiology at the University of Alberta, and worked as an optometric assistant. In her free time, you can find her exploring cafes, binge-watching TV shows (currently: Bridgerton and The Pitt!), or thinking of meme ideas for the Wobbegong Weekly! She rotates through many hobbies, including reading, journaling, taekwondo, and, most recently, playing the clarinet!

Eliana is so grateful to serve as part of the CMSA team. If you see her, please feel free to say hello, and don’t hesitate to send her memes to be featured on the newsletter :)

Introducing your VP External Affairs - Provincial!

Noam steps into the role with a strong background in health policy and advocacy. As a former policy advisor for Alberta Health, he knows how health policy works in Alberta – and firmly believes medical students should be a part of shaping it.

Outside of school, Noam can usually be found snowboarding, hiking, paddle boarding, and cycling. He also loves to travel, catch live music, and is a big hockey fan!
Originally from Edmonton, he holds on to hope that McDavid will hoist the cup in an Oilers Jersey.

Noam’s favourite animals are sharks, so being part of the Wobbegongs just feels right. He’s honoured and excited to represent his classmates on a provincial level, through student advocacy days, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta’s Council, and the Alberta Medical Association.

If you have an advocacy idea, concern, or just want to talk policy, hockey, or sharks – Noam is always happy to chat :)

Meet your CMSA VP EDIIA, Rica!!

Rica is a medical student with a kinesiology background and experience in patient care and equity-focused leadership. She’s also an active member of the Black Medical Students’ Association, and is committed to creating inclusive, accessible spaces and fostering a strong sense of belonging within the medical school community.

Outside of school, she loves Pilates, always has music playing, and spends a lot of time on FaceTime with friends. She has two dogs and a cat (definitely a cat person), enjoys sci-fi and fantasy, reads romance novels in her downtime, and is currently learning speed-cubing, which she can solve in under a minute.

She’s also currently watching Love Island: All Stars “Charge it to the game.”

Rica is incredibly honoured and genuinely happy to be part of the CMSA and to serve as your VP EDIIA. She values transparency, approachability, and meaningful engagement. She’s always open to connecting, listening, and working together to make a more supportive space for everyone.

Up next: Ryan, VP SAW!

I am very excited to be your VP of Student Advocacy and Wellness.
I am passionate about creating environments where people feel supported, heard, and comfortable being themselves. I bring diverse experience in mental health advocacy and frontline work, having led wellness and education initiatives in high-pressure settings where burnout and stress were common, even when they were not openly discussed.
Before medical school, I worked as a Registered Nurse and Mental Health Therapist. Alongside my clinical work, I helped develop a peer support program for teachers focused on burnout prevention and stress management. These experiences continue to shape how I approach wellness and advocacy, and have given me a strong appreciation for the stress that often exists behind the scenes. My goal is to help ensure wellness initiatives are meaningful, to amplify student voices, and to strengthen connection between students, faculty, and support services within UME.
Outside of school, I enjoy staying active through hiking, biking, playing hockey, and strength training. We are also new to Calgary, so building community is a work in progress (I am always open to suggestions on your favorite local spots).
I am excited to work alongside all of you to help make medical school a place where students can thrive and not just get through it. I also try to be approachable, so please feel free to reach out with concerns, ideas, or suggestions. I cannot promise to fix everything, but I can promise to listen and do my best.
