We like to think so.
There isn't one reason why the obesity rates in Canada continue to rise, but something that continues to stand out is that those who have tried to lose weight for years have questioned if they are even physically capable of doing so. Could it be that your body is actually working against you? Research is demonstrating that physiological conditions in the body can be a big part of why we can't shed those extra pounds. That's why getting a little extra help from a medically based co-care team of Doctors, nutritionists, and fitness coaches can make all the difference.
In our 'Optimal Body' program, we assess where you are today - inside and out and work toward your goals in a supportive, collaborative way.
When we create individual protocols for you, we listen and look to address the root cause of issues.
Leave the guesswork to us while you work on getting the results you finally deserve.

Obesity is not just about willpower.
There's actually a lot of science that goes into understanding obesity. And, as it turns out, a caloric deficit may not be the only answer. In fact, there are four main factors that contribute to obesity: genetics, metabolism, environment, and behavior. Let's take a closer look at each one.
Genetics
There's no denying that our genes play a role in our weight. Studies have shown that obese people tend to have obese parents. But genes aren't the whole story. If they were, then identical twins would always have the same body weight—but they don't. In fact, studies show that even when one twin is obese, the other only has a 50-60% chance of being obese as well. So while genetics may predispose us to obesity, they're not destiny.
Metabolism
Our metabolism—or the rate at which we burn calories—also plays a role in our weight. And, unfortunately, it's not something we can control. Metabolism is determined by factors like age, s*x, muscle mass, and genes.
Environment
The food environment plays a big role in obesity. In today's world, we're surrounded by calorie-dense, nutrient-poor foods. This food is often cheaper and more convenient than healthier options, making it hard to resist. Plus, we live in a culture that encourages overeating. Think all-you-can-eat buffets and supersized meals. It's no wonder our waistlines are expanding!
Behavior
Last but not least, our behavior also contributes to obesity. Our behaviors are often influenced by our environment and our genes—which means they can be tough to change. But change is possible with effort and support.
Obesity is a complex issue with many contributing factors—genetics, metabolism, environment, and behavior among them. And while creating a caloric deficit is still important for weight loss, it's not the only answer. To truly lose weight and keep it off long term, we must understand and address all of the factors that contribute to obesity . . . not just one or two of them!
