David Mack graduated from St. Stephen’s University in New Brunswick before pursuing a degree in theology at Oxford University. While at Oxford, David joined the British Army reserves and was commissioned into the regular Army in 2005. Serving as an infantry officer with the Black Watch he deployed on back-to-back tours in Northern Ireland, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and conducted exercises in Cyprus, Malawi, and Kenya.

In 2011, David earned an MBA from Queen’s University and later completed the Canadian Securities Course.

David was the lead writer and editor of Aviation Assault Battle Group: The 2009 Afghan Tour of The Black Watch and has sat on several advisory boards in Canada and in the UK.

David was part of the original advisory team for Valour, hand picked around the country to implement change and the first person on board. It was only when he said the idea wasn’t crazy that this endeavour was green lit. Together we started Valour in the Presence of the Enemy We never envisioned Valour in the Presence of the Enemy as a non-profit formed to educate Canadians about our proud military heritage, and particularly honour soldiers whose heroism been overlooked. Sometimes, like in the War in Afghanistan it was because of indifference, but too often in the World Wars of the last century exceptional bravery was overlooked because of racial discrimination. Our goal is to bring enough attention to these deserving soldiers that we can inspire an independent government or military review to properly look into their stories and honour their heroism.
