Toque Fairies

So proud to have been asked to be a part of this amazing project this year. Although we Toque Fairies are pretty much retired, we just couldn't say no when asked to make 25 hats for some pretty deserving women who are battling breast cancer. These hats will be delivered as part of the 2016 Gift of Hope packages delivered to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre here in Calgary.

A pile of cozy, handmade hats, ready to be added to our Gifts of Hope bags for delivery on Tuesday. A big thanks to JSS Barristers and Shoppers Drug Mart for supporting this cheer-bringing program!

Cancer is an awful disease that one in two of us will experience in our lifetime. The Toque Fairies have lost moms, grandmas, aunts, and friends to this horrible disease. We have also watched some of the people that we love fight off Cancer. One of the Toque Fairies (Karla) is doing the Ride to Conquer Cancer in August 2015.

In order to ride, Karla has to raise at least $2500. Yes, this is a lot of money…but Karla works in a Biochemistry lab that is partially funded by the Alberta Cancer Foundation. She sees first hand how research helps!. Today, more people diagnosed with Cancer are surviving when compared to merely decades ago!

To help with the fundrasing, the Toque Fairies will be making various items throughout the year, posting them for auction. Whoever wins the item just has to go to Karla’s Ride to Conquer Cancer page and donate the entire winning bid (see her story on http://www.conquercancer.ca/site/TR/Events/Alberta2015?px=3807572&pg=personal&fr_id=1531).

Now for some rules...

1. Comment under the item that you want to bid for with your bid amount (you do not have to “like” our page to do this, but we appreciate any extra fans).
2. The person who made the winning bid must contact Toque Fairies either by e-mail or Facebook message within 24 hours so that we can confirm the donation, shipping, etc.
3. Shipping is in addition to the winning bid (e.g. expect to add on at least another $10 for shipping). We do live in Calgary and “pick up” of the item can be arranged.

After much thought and deliberation, Karla and I (Tanya), have decided that we need to take a break from being Toque Fairies. We are both feeling disconnected from our love of crochet, and have said from the very beginning that we would no longer continue to sell our creations if it wasn't fun for us any more. Unfortunately, that time has come...

We have loved the support from all of you and truly appreciate your business over the past 4 years, but for now, we need to close our doors. Our page will remain open and of course any items already made are available for purchase, we just won't be taking on any new orders for an undetermined amount of time. You may even see a few new items from us, as our creative juices have a chance to recharge. This isn't good-bye, it's just a break.

We would like to concentrate on spending more time with our families and have a happier work/life balance. We hope you all understand, and again, THANK YOU for the support you have shown us. We really do appreciate it!
