"WE WANT TO THANK all of the folks who joined us today for our River Walk! Despite the rain, we had so much fun sharing our findings, and listening to some local takes about the Medicine River. We’ll miss you, Markerville! 🇮🇸🩵 "
- SIGNY & RAKEL
A dozen hardy souls gathered at the Buttermaker’s House on the afternoon of June 4 to take part in the Interactive River Walk led by our current artists-in-residence, Signy Holm and Rakel Holm.
As we strolled along the Medicine River, the group shared stories and memories of Markerville while visiting several locations that Signy and Rakel have been exploring during their residency. Along the way, they introduced us to the quarter-metre-square quadrat sampling they have been using to observe and document the landscape.
While science often measures and records the natural world in numbers and data, many participants had cameras in hand, capturing the beauty of the river, the trails, and the quiet moments we encountered along the way. It was a wonderful afternoon of observation, conversation, and connection with the place we call home.
