T'is the season to be creative! Starting fresh in the new year gives you loads of opportunity to take risks, get out of your comfort zone and be more playful!

Here are 4 tips for setting up studio lighting for dramatic effect on portraits!

Single, Strong Light Source: Utilize a single, powerful light source, such as a strobe or continuous light, to create a dramatic and impactful look.

High and Off-Axis Placement: Position the light source at a 45-degree angle above and to the side of the subject. This angle will cast strong shadows and create a sense of depth and dimension.

Minimize Fill Light: Reduce or eliminate the use of fill light. This will increase the contrast between the highlights and shadows, resulting in a more dramatic effect.

Control Light Spread: Experiment with light modifiers like grids or snoots to control the spread of light. This will help to create more defined shadows and add further drama to the portrait.
