🌞 Parents & Caregivers – We Need Your Feedback Again!

SECA was excited to receive **two grants** to bring a FREE summer drop-in children's program to the park at Shawnee Park East (Shawnee Blvd & Shawnee St. SW).

Thank you to everyone who completed our survey! Your feedback was incredibly helpful. You told us that:

📆 Wednesday or Thursday mornings work best
⏰ 6–8 years & 9–11 years were the most requested

Unfortunately, due to a six-week delay outside of SECA's control, we're now facing challenges securing qualified Recreation Leaders. This means that a staffed play program may not be possible.

Rather than let this opportunity disappear, we're exploring a different idea...beginning late July that would run for six weeks.

💚 A Community Play Meet-Up!

SECA would provide:
⚽️ Play equipment - for active and quiet activities
🥤 Drinks and snacks for children and adults
🎨 One or two special art sessions led by a local artist

Our Community Connector, Anya, along with a SECA volunteer, would be there for 1.5 hrs, to welcome families, help neighbours connect, and create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere while the children play.

After all, the best part of the park isn't just the playground—it's having friends to play with. Our goal remains the same: to create fun outdoor play experiences while helping children, parents, grandparents, and caregivers build friendships and strengthen our neighbourhood connections.

On June 28, the Fairways Villas North HOA on Shawnee Rise SW, planned to gather for their annual Block Party, bringing neighbours together for a day of fun and connection. When the forecast was wet and they needed a little extra shelter, SECA was happy to help by making two 20' × 10' event tents available—one of the many ways we support community connection building.
