I moved to Victoria for its reputation as a vibrant hub of small businesses, creativity, and independent culture — a place where entrepreneurs could build something meaningful and be supported by the community around them.

Since becoming part of that landscape, I’ve also experienced a different reality: an increasingly challenging environment where the very people who shape the character of this city are finding it harder and harder to simply exsist.

What makes a tourist destination truly memorable isn’t just the scenery — it’s the small businesses, markets, makers, and local voices that bring it to life with their authenticity. And right now, those are exactly the things that need more care, visibility, and support if they’re going to continue to thrive.
