๐Ÿ”ฅ Honouring a Legend: The Thomas Haydon Memorial Game & Award ๐Ÿ”ฅ
๐Ÿ‘‰ Saturday, June 13th ๐Ÿ‘ˆ6

For the ones who built this game. For the brotherhood that never dies. For the hits, the heart, the stories, and the memories that still echo through the arena. ๐Ÿฅโค๏ธ

Thomas Haydon (TH6) was so much more than a Delta Firefighter. He was a lacrosse champion, a skilled tradesman, an outdoorsman, and above all, a devoted father, husband, and friend. As a player, coach, and the first-ever captain of the Delta Junior โ€œAโ€ Islanders, his impact on our community runs deep.

Since his courageous battle with cancer ended in 2018, the lacrosse and firefighter communities have come together every year to keep his legacy alive. This year, weโ€™re heading back to the Ladner Leisure Centre to pack the stands, raise a drink, and honour Thomas the only way lacrosse players know how: TOGETHER.

Come out for a day of incredible lacrosse, great company, and community fundraising that would have meant the world to Thomas.

Today, Delta Firefighters responded alongside our emergency service partners to a serious motor vehicle incident involving a motorcycle on Scott Road in North Delta.

As a result of the collision, the motorcycle became suspended from a traffic signal above the intersection. Our crews worked throughout the incident to assist with patient care, scene safety, and later the safe removal of the motorcycle from the traffic light.

Incidents like this are difficult for everyone involved, and our thoughts are with the drivers, passengers, their loved ones, and all those impacted by todayโ€™s events. We are wishing them a full recovery.

Today also serves as an important reminder to slow down, stay alert, and practice road safety at all times โ€” whether you are driving, riding, cycling, or walking in our community. A moment of caution can make all the difference.

Thank you as well to Delta Police, BCEHS, and all responding crews for their teamwork and professionalism throughout the incident.

For the third annual Mayorโ€™s Charity Ball, Burnsview Secondary Child and Youth Care Worker Curtis Miller once again donated one of his own First Nations carvings to help raise funds for the Delta Firefighters Healthy Snacks Program. He carved the piece alongside select Burnsview Secondary students who have been working on it for several months.

The piece was auctioned on Saturday, May 2 at the Mayorโ€™s Ball, which took place at the North Delta Recreation Centre. The carving raised $5,000 for the Healthy Snacks Program. The program, initiated by firefighters in 2021, ensures that no student goes through their school day hungry by supplying snacks to over 20 schools across the Delta School District.
