Today on Father’s Day, we’re celebrating a milestone years in the making and the wolf at the heart of it all.

Following the loss of Shilah, Tundra’s longtime companion, a new future began to take shape. The zoo moved quickly to secure a future for him, and over the next three years set about building a new habitat and finding new packmates, all with the hope of creating a space where generations of wolves would thrive.

At 14 years old, Tundra became a father for the first time, welcoming the first litter of wolf pups ever born in the R. Mollot Arctic Wolf Habitat in April.

The birth of these pups is not only an exciting milestone for our zoo, but for everyone who has followed Tundra’s story over the years. For an animal who has been with us for so long and loved by so many, seeing his legacy continue through these pups is a reminder that the future we once dreamed of for him and his pack has finally arrived.

Watching Tundra with his growing family has been one of the most heartwarming experiences we could hope for, and it feels like the perfect way to celebrate Father’s Day. ❤️
