Ever wonder what a damaged drive looks like during the imaging process? You will notice two digit alpha-numeric blocks in the centre area which is HEX code. The jumbled characters off to the side is the interpretation of that code. You will also notice the red errors in the map. This represents a bad sector and the letter represents what kind of error the drive ran into when trying to read that area. This is a WD10S21X Hybrid Drive that we are working on today. Suffering from firmware damage in the system area. These drives are rather rare to come in so these are always interesting cases. A hybrid drive combines the speed of an SSD (NAND flash) memory for frequently accessed data with the cost effectiveness of a traditional HDD for data storage.
