There is plenty of snow across Ontario, so we want to remind customers to keep snow and ice from building up on gas meters and external exhaust outlets for furnaces, fireplaces, water heaters and dryers.
Keeping these areas clear will keep you safe and ensure your gas meter and appliances function properly and safely. A gas meter covered in snow or ice can disrupt the flow of gas, leading to issues with your home's heating.
To ensure your safety, we'd like to share a few key tips:
Gently remove snow using a brush or broom, never use sharp tools.
Do not shovel, plow, or blow snow against the meter or vent pipe.
Be careful not to bump your meter with a snow blower.
Never kick your gas meter or vent pipe to clear ice and snow.
Remove icicles or dripping water.

Should You Cover Your Air Conditioner in the Winter? ❄️
This is a question we get asked all the time — and the short answer is no, it’s not necessary to cover your outdoor AC unit during the winter.
These systems are specifically designed to withstand outdoor conditions year-round. In fact, most manufacturer installation manuals do not recommend using a cover.
While it may seem like covering the unit offers extra protection, it can actually cause problems. A cover can trap moisture and create a warm, inviting space for insects and rodents — especially mice — which may chew on wiring and cause damage.
Our recommendation: leave your AC uncovered during the winter months. Just make sure the area around it stays clear of leaves, debris, and snow buildup.
Your unit will be ready to perform when you need it again in the spring! 🌤️

When was the last time you serviced your fireplace and furnace? Carbon monoxide can leak from gas appliances.
