Last night, I had the honour of joining Hamilton's creative community at the beautiful Art Gallery of Hamilton for the 50th Annual Hamilton Arts Awards, where I had the privilege of welcoming the crowd and presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to an exceptional, once-in-a-generation artist Jude Johnson.

Congratulations to all 39 nominees and to each of this year's award recipients. For 50 years, the Hamilton Arts Awards have celebrated the artists, creators, storytellers, and cultural leaders who help shape our city's identity, bring our neighbourhoods to life, and tell the stories of who we are.

The arts play an essential role in building strong communities — bringing people together, inspiring new ideas, supporting local businesses, and making Hamilton the city we know and love.

Thank you to everyone who continues to create, perform, imagine, and share your talents with our community. Hamilton is better because of you. 🎭🎶🎨

Thank you to Emina Kapo, Dr. Emir Ramić, and Mohammed for visiting City Hall today and presenting me with this meaningful plaque on behalf of Hamilton's Bosnian community and the Genocide Research Institute of Canada.

As we approach the anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, we are reminded of the importance of remembrance, education, and standing firmly against hatred in all its forms.

I am honoured by this recognition and grateful for the opportunity to continue supporting efforts to preserve truth, memory, and human dignity.
