In our latest podcast episode we discuss the role of the nervous system in digestion. 

Our autonomic nervous system has two branches— sympathetic or “fight or flight” 🏃🏽‍♀️
+ parasympathetic “rest and digest” 🧘‍♀️

However, we often see patients in a heightened ⚡️sympathetic⚡️ state. Their bodies are in survival mode— and internally their energy is diverted away from their digestive system. 

Our goal in treatment is the increase your 🌊parasympathetic state🌊— bring you into a state of rest and digest so your body feels safe to focus back on nourishment and repair. 

🩻We can help our bodies do the same at home with things like deep breathing, humming, and movements to open potential restriction along the spine like the cat-cow pose. 

These can directly impact digestion by promoting inhibition of our sympathetic nerves along the spine, and stimulation of our parasympathetic nerves (vagus & pelvic nerves) along our head/neck and tailbone.
