“Saudade” is a beautiful Portuguese word that describes a deep, melancholic longing for something or someone you miss. That’s exactly how I feel looking back at my time in Luanda #2018 . ✨8 years ago, living my best life in Angola.

One of the biggest cultural differences I’ve noticed comes down to family dynamics in old age. In Canada, independence is the norm, often meaning parents in their 70s and 80s are still working to earn their own bread. Meanwhile, in India, interdependence is the core value, and children naturally step up to support their parents as they age. Two completely different worlds and views on family. 🇨🇦🤝🇮🇳
Seeing parents in their 70s and 80s still working to put food on the table in Canada really made me think about back home.
