In case you haven't met this vivacious QUEEN 👑, let me introduce Mavis! You always know she's at the gym because, well, you can't miss the knee braces...or her sweet dance moves 😄

Q. What were your beliefs about strength training before you started? Have your beliefs changed? If so, how?
A. I didn't actually think about strength training...I ran...until I joined a gym. I took a 3 month package to work with a trainer so I could see what it was all about. That was 17 years ago. Now I understand that strength training is essential to living a good life. It's not only good for the body, building bones and muscles, balance and agility, but it's good for mental health. I have never done anything as empowering as strength training. It gives me confidence and energy and an inner as well as outer strength.

Q. What are you most proud of since you started training?
A. I am proud of the way I have been able to age and to take on new challenges. But I have to say that of individual lifts I am most proud of my 215 deadlift on my 75th birthday.

Q. Name or describe your least favourite exercise(s). How do I motivate you to do it?
A. I have been resistant to anything new, especially combination exercises because there are several components that require coordination and focus at the
same time. Alison motivates me to do them by breaking down the exercise, describing how each element contributes to the exercise and the benefits of doing the exercise. Most importantly, she lets me know that I "can" do it.

Q. Describe me in 3 words or emojis.
A. Professional, demanding, and supportive.

Q. What's the best advice or hack I've given you.
A. You've always told me that I can do much more than I think I can. I have faith that if you say it, then I can do it.

Q. The holidays are coming. Would I put you on the naughty or nice list?
A. Mixed bag here. I whine and gripe all the time, dance and make bad jokes. However, I am serious about my strength training and keep trying to improve. So, one lump of coal and one sweet treat.

Bonus question for my husband:

Q.What's the most embarrassing thing I've done or said?
A.I've got nothing here.
