What you say in those moments teaches them:

👉🏼How to tolerate rejection

👉🏼How to repair

👉🏼How to read social cues

👉🏼How to survive not being chosen

And that matters waaay beyond elementary school.

If you want more scripts that actually help (without escalating the drama), follow Caitlin Slavens & Chelsea Bodie for real-life parenting support. Comment SHIFT below to get our resources on how to manage the emotional shifts that happen in the later elementary and middle schools years 👇🏼

We asked our kids what they wish parents knew when they lose control of their emotions..

Its important to remember most kids don’t want to be yelling, crying, slamming doors, or saying things they don’t mean. Their brains are overwhelmed. And often they feel bad about it after.

Comment ANGER below and we’ll send you our blog on tips and strategies on helping your kid manage their big emotions.

You can also book a free consult with one of our child therapists or therapists who offer parenting support. We offer in-person appts in Lethbridge, Leduc and Edmonton as well as virtual appts across Canada.

How were you taught to deal with bullies? 👇🏼

We don't believe the goal is to raise kids who never face hard people or hard moments. We want to raise kids who know how to recognize when something isn't okay, trust their spidey sense, set boundaries, ask for help, and know they deserve to be treated with respect.

These are all skills that can be taught long before they're ever needed.

If your child is struggling with friendships, bullying, anxiety about school/camps. Know that these are some of the most common concerns we help families navigate, and getting support early can make a huge difference.

💛 Comment "SHIFT" and we'll send you our free article on the social and emotional changes kids experience between ages 8 and 12, including why friendships can suddenly become so much harder.

If you're looking for more individualized support, our child therapists and parenting specialists offer in-person sessions in Lethbridge Leduc and Edmonton and virtual across Canada ❤️

Not every sign of love looks like hugs and “I love you.”

😵‍💫Sometimes it looks like them arguing their case like they just passed the bar exam
🙃Sometimes it’s them disappearing into their own little world for hours.
🙈Sometimes it’s the bathroom jokes.
🤷🏼‍♀️The “watch me” followed immediately by “no, don’t help.”

If your child feels safe enough to be silly, independent, honest, and even push back, you’re doing it right.

Even on the days it doesn’t feel like it...

Save this for the days you wonder if you’re getting it right. Because we have all been there ❤️
