Meet the teacher!

I began piano lessons with the Royal Conservatory of Music when I was six years old. I studied with a private teacher from age 6-19. After finishing lessons with her, I expanded my love of music by accompanying church services on a monthly basis. I also perform in other capacities, including providing music for cocktail parties and company events, weddings, funerals, and accompanying vocalists. I have fifteen years of teaching experience, have my ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and am a member of the BC Registered Music Teachers Association. I am located at a home studio in Mission BC.

My Musical Mission:
I strive to, in any way I can, instill and inspire a love of and a passion for music in my students. This means that although I primarily use the Royal Conservatory of Music program, I supplement my teaching with many different genres of music such as pop, rock, jazz, and ensemble work. By encouraging my students to explore different genres and find something to be excited about, my hope is that they will continue to find inspiration and passion in music for the rest of their lives.

What are your qualifications?
I have 15 years of practical teaching experience, both in private piano instruction, and private theory instruction.
I have my ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music.
I am a member of the BC Registered Music Teachers Association.

Which days do you teach?
I teach from Monday through Friday, from September through June. Currently, I am interviewing for space in my September 2023 schedule. Please contact me in the Contact section for more specific information regarding scheduling, and to request an interview.

Where are you located?
I teach out of my home studio, located near the cross streets of Alder Street and 4th Avenue.

What are your lesson fees?
30 minute lesson: $30
45 minute lesson: $45
60 minutes lesson: $60
Lesson fees increase regularly every 2 years. The next increase will take place Fall 2025.

Do you put on recitals?
Yes! Performing is an integral part of any musical education. My students perform in two recitals per year with mandatory attendance, one at Christmas, and one in June for our year end wrap-up.

What program(s) do you teach?
I teach the Royal Conservatory of Music program. The beginner program I most often use is called "Piano Adventures." For theory (Rudiments History and Harmony), I use the Royal Conservatory program.

What is your exam policy?
There are many benefits to playing exams, including: setting a goal to work towards, providing opportunity to hear outside feedback on your playing, and having an opportunity to gain accreditation towards academic credits. I review the necessity, timing, and need for exams on a per student basis.

Here's what is happening this month...
It's October, which means crisp weather, cozy sweaters, and Hallowe'en! The students are choosing their favorite fall pieces to work on, from "This is Hallowe'en" from The Nightmare Before Christmas, to "Autumn Leaves" by Canadian composer Linda Niamath!
When you are listening to your students practise these cozy fall pieces, offer them an extra blanket to keep their feet warm or maybe some hot cocoa for after their practise sessions!

I offer private piano and theory lessons to people of all ages, here in the heart of Mission.

I particularly enjoy teaching preteens and teenagers, and welcome students of all ages and abilities.

I teach the Royal Conservatory program, but love to incorporate jazz, pop, movie soundtracks, and any other music my students bring me!
