Fondé au Québec en 2016, le Quatuor à cordes Voxpopuli s’est rapidement imposé sur les scènes locale et internationale comme une formation de haut calibre.

Cet album reflète l’engagement du Quatuor envers l’exploration de répertoires marquants et encore trop rarement entendus. Réunissant des œuvres de Vítězslav Novák, Erwin Schulhoff et Borys Lyatoshynsky, l'album met en lumière la richesse et la diversité de la musique de chambre d’Europe centrale et orientale du XXe siècle.

De l’écriture expressive et atmosphérique du Quatuor à cordes n° 2 de Novák, à l’énergie rythmique et au caractère dansant des Cinq pièces pour quatuor à cordes de Schulhoff, jusqu’à la profondeur émotionnelle du Quatuor à cordes n° 4 de Lyatoshynsky, cet enregistrement propose un fascinant voyage musical à travers des univers sonores et des voix artistiques contrastées.

Founded in Quebec in 2016, the Voxpopuli String Quartet has quickly established itself on the local and international stages as a high-caliber ensemble.

This album reflects the Quartet’s commitment to exploring significant yet still rarely heard repertoires. Bringing together works by Vítězslav Novák, Erwin Schulhoff, and Borys Lyatoshynsky, the album highlights the richness and diversity of 20th-century chamber music from Central and Eastern Europe.

From the expressive and atmospheric writing of Novák’s String Quartet No. 2, to the rhythmic energy and dance-like character of Schulhoff’s Five Pieces for String Quartet, to the emotional depth of Lyatoshynsky’s String Quartet No. 4, this recording offers a fascinating musical journey through contrasting soundscapes and artistic voices.
