A journey and quest to rekindle humanity's lost bond with nature

10/11/2024

I took the time last night to take care of my own sanity amid the horrors I see unfolding everyday in my home country, Lebanon. The roars of fighter jets and sonic booms spreading word of what’s about to come, then the thunderous sound of bunker bombs, and finally followed by shrieks of terror of someone who lost loved ones (so many at a time, rarely just one)… this reality rarely leaves my mind these days. And so, I look up the Heavens asking, praying, kneeling, pleading and finally even arguing for grace to intervene. This photograph is my first ever sighting of an Aurora: for me it means my loved ones in Lebanon and all its people dancing and twirling again as the Northern Lights dance and bring a mystically real feeling of magic and warmth despite the darkness and cold of the night. 🇱🇧

This Bufflehead kept going back and forth along the other side of the pond, which is where most wildlife end up whenever there are humans in sight at Reesor Pond (and most other places for that matter - let's face it, we're not exactly known to be a gentle species).

I was the only person there as it was New Year's Eve, so I waited hoping the duck would acclimatize to the presence of just one person and eventually get closer.

Fortunately I stayed long enough to capture the duck as it took flight and passed about 50 meters in front me. It was only after I post-processed the image at home that I noticed the gorgeous hues of color on its head, all which seem entirely black from far away.
