More from our second day skiing Mt Klitsa in the Alberni Valley 🎿

The clouds ebbed and flowed as the day passed, giving us long moments of bluebird skies and sparkling snow. We enjoyed the views higher up, the softer snow for our limited turns down the mountain, and a low-key charcuterie lunch.

We saw a couple people touring much higher up the slopes than us, likely pushing for the summit. They must have come in via the Brigade Lake Trail because we were the only ones on the Brooke George Trail that day.

We had the time to go even higher than we did towards the summit, but the terrain got significantly steeper and more exposed in some sections, and Katie wasn't feeling confident skinning up one particular slope, so we decided there was no need to push it. We still had a fantastic day hiking, skiing, and playing around with our still pretty new OM camera! 📸

That time we took our skis for a really lovely hike up a mountain...

In February, we had a chance to spend some time exploring around the Port Alberni area. We stayed for 5 days in the town that we normally only pass through on our way to Tofino, and we've gotta say: what a special place!

We spent our first couple days hiking/ski touring on Mount Klitsa, via the Brooke George Trail. There was not a lot of snow lower down, which meant we had a heck of a lot of boot-packing. We certainly earned our turns!!

We had so much fun in the snow, even though we didn't get that much actual skiing in.. just being in the mountains always makes us happy 😊
