Silas will join BC nurses (BC Nurses' Union) on the picket line at Vancouver General Hospital bright and early at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Just a 1% increase in public health care spending would raise real GDP in Canada by billions of dollars in the first year alone… So why are we facing federal funding cliffs for key health care agreements?
$1.2 billion in federal funding for home and community care and mental health and addictions services next March. Another $600 million per year in federal long-term care funding expires the following year. There are no current plans to continue this funding.
These agreements fund services that help seniors, people with complex medical conditions, people leaving hospitals who need support at home, improvements to safety in long-term care homes. And so much more.
As CFNU President Linda Silas writes in this opinion piece, Canada doesn’t need more austerity measures. We need sound investment into a public health care system that works for everyone in Canada and strengthens our economy. Now that’s something we could all be proud of.
