Title: Dream’s ashes

Artist: Mahsa Alikhani

Description: Dream’s Ashes is a large-scale installation paying tribute to the victims of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752. It comprises 176 UV-printed Iranian cypresses, forming a memorial for the Iranian and Canadian passengers who lost their lives. In Persian culture, the cypress, or Sarv, symbolizes life through its evergreen nature. Trees have long been revered for their life-giving qualities, and cypresses are traditionally planted in cemeteries, linking them to both life and death. My vision intertwines the world’s oldest known cypress in Iran, dating back four thousand years, with a burning image. Rather than easing the mind, it reminds us of our shared fate. These non-evergreen cypresses represent lives and dreams cut short by
human wrong decisions, embodying the grief of thousands.
