💥 FRENCH ARTICLES (LES ARTICLES) 💥

🔸 What is an Article?

An article is a small word that comes before a noun.
In English, articles are:
a / an
the

In French, articles are more detailed because they depend on:
gender (masculine or feminine)
number (singular or plural)

🔸 Types of French Articles

There are three main types of French articles:
🔹Definite articles (the)
🔹Indefinite articles (a / an)
🔹Partitive articles (some / any)

⚛️ Definite Articles (The)
These refer to something specific.

French English
le the (masculine)
la the (feminine)
les the (plural)

Examples:
▪️le livre → the book
▪️la table → the table
▪️les enfants → the children

👉 Before a vowel, le or la becomes l’
▪️l’école → the school
▪️l’ami → the friend

⚛️ Indefinite Articles (A / An)
These refer to something general or not specific.

French English
un a (masculine)
une a (feminine)
des some (plural)

Examples:
▪️un garçon → a boy
▪️une fille → a girl
▪️des livres → some books

⚛️ Partitive Articles (Some / Any)
These are used for things you cannot count, like food or liquids.

French English
du some
de la some
de l’ some

Examples:
▪️Je mange du pain.
I eat some bread.
▪️Elle boit de l’eau.
She drinks some water.

🎯 Important Rule

In English, we sometimes omit articles, but in French, you usually must use one.

Example:
English: I like music
French: J’aime la musique ❗
