When someone justifies their diet or restrictive eating habits by claiming it's a lifestyle 🙄
Disclaimer: I did this for years. First with no refined sugar, then with veganism, then with "clean eating" and eliminating processed foods.
It's not a lifestyle, Karen. It's called restrictive eating.
Obsessively checking food labels to see how much sugar is in something.
Scanning ingredient lists to check for preservatives or "hidden ingredients".
Drinking only water because liquid calories are the devil.
Turning your nose up to anything that comes in a package.
Shopping only the perimeter of the store, because that's where the "real food" is (all food is real food, but whatever).
Denying yourself dessert because it's "empty calories".
..sorry to break it to you, but it's not a lifestyle.
IT'S RESTRICTION.
Stop glamourizing "clean eating". There's nothing glamourous about it.
In fact, it's a very exclusive "lifestyle" with barriers for many (financial, lack of access, time-consuming, etc). But that's a conversation for another day.

When it's the weekend & you don't have to worry about cheating on your diet because you broke up with diet culture 🙌🏽
Weekends used to terrify me.
No routine.
Last minute plans.
Dinners out.
Family events.
Unplanned snacks.
The inability to count & track macros.
It was my real life nightmare.
Now, I embrace the spontaneity that the weekends bring.
I'm the first one to suggest a dinner out, or having a wine & cheese night in.
The lack of routine doesn't scare me..... in fact, it liberates me.
I can now live my life totally FREE from the anxieties brought on by untracked meals.
I can now ENJOY my weekends.
And be present in them.
Weekends don't terrify me anymore.
They excite me.
And I can't tell you incredible that feels.
I used to think there was no way I could ever have true food freedom.
Not I live it everyday.

How did reading that make you feel?
Anxious?
Overwhelmed?
Defeated?
Exhausted?
Mad?
Frustrated?
Unfortunately these are just a handful of the thousands of promises we see being made in January (but really... all year round, too!)
Messaging like this gives womxn the false hope that it really is "that easy" to lose weight/change our bodies.
It makes us feel like failures when we can't adhere to "that easy" solution.
It makes it seem like we have a moral obligation to forever be on the pursuit of weight loss & shrinking our bodies.
It tells us that our worth is in our bodies & how/what we eat.
It damages the self-confidence, self-love, & body image of millions of womxn each year.
It fuels disordered eating, body dysmorphia, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, & compulsive over-exercising.
It holds back millions of womxn from finding true happiness, loving themselves unconditionally, living out their full potential, & making big waves in this world.
Messaging like this ruins lives.
Period.
Challenge this mainstream narrative.
Respect your body the way it is.
Be so unapologetically you that you can't help but love yourself.
Eat the foods you love.
Move your body in ways that feel good.
Self-care the S**T out of yourself.
Take up space in this world.
Use your voice.
Demand the attention of the room.
Not because of the way you look,
but because of the energy you exude.
YOU ARE PERFECT.
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.
YOU ARE SO LOVED.
