Let’s Weav!

During my first year of university, I had a girlfriend who studied at Waterloo. Being fortunate enough to own a car, I would routinely make the one and a half hour journey from Toronto, where I lived, to visit her. While the time we spent together was unforgettable, its shine was diminished by $80 cost to refill each time.

She must have realized my unspoken problem as I was soon introduced to Facebook carpooling groups; communities well over 20,000 students, all rallied behind the sole purpose of going between cities affordably, safely, and quickly. I was surprised, to say the least; I never knew that such communities existed, nor was I aware that they were commonly used. Not only could drivers charge passengers to recover fuel expenses, but the riders themselves also get cheaper rides. I was fascinated.

Beginning to post on groups, I realized that connecting drivers and riders demanded much effort in the way of time, planning, and arranging payments. I realized, that my situation was not singular, but an overarching concern for the wider community at hand. For students finding the best way to get home, for the people trying to get to an event on time, travelers trying to reach their destinations, for workers who seek a superior alternative to transit; problems pertaining to reliability soon became apparent to me.

And so, I decided to make this app. A simple, convenient, and reliable way to solve the problems people confront when traveling. At the same time, providing a fun and social journey with exciting opportunities to encounter new people and stories.
