Marco Sassone

Who is Marco Sassone? The Italian artist (b. 1942) is renowned for his broad-ranging surface of his canvasses, permeated by a palpable sense of motion. His work also confronts history and collective memory. As author Peter Clothier once said, “Sassone challenged the expectations of the mainstream and forged an individual path... predicting by a number of years the embrace of a new school of figuration of the 1970s and 1980s.”
Growing up in Florence, Sassone’s subjects express the tension between conventional forms and contemporary relevance, thus inviting interpretation in a classical as well as a modern perspective. This work, much like Van Gogh, reflects the cycle of life, creating a journey that highlights the artist’s extraordinary fidelity to its origins.
