🫀Cardiac Update🫀
I've been referred to a cardiovascular surgeon for a consultation to discuss surgery for my aortic root aneurysm and possibly mitral valve prolapse. It is NOT emergent, however I was told it's time to start the discussion.
I've recieved the finalized reports from my appointment last week, and it turns out that my aortic root aneurysm is measuring 44 mm in maximal cusp-to-cusp diameter.
The threshold for referral to cardiovascular surgery for people with Marfan Syndrome is usually 45mm. However, with my family history and other health issues, we've decided to send the referral now, as I may be at a higher risk for rupture.
I should be hearing from the surgeon's office within the next 3 months with the details about my appointment.
For now, I have a new friend for the next two weeks... another test🙃🫀 This one is a holter monitor because I've been having some palpitations, shortness of breath etc.
It's crazy how different each device is every time I have to do a new holter.
Anyways.. that's where we are. If the surgeon is willing to go ahead and thinks it's a good idea, I'm going to do it. Rather than waiting for it to grow 1 more millimetre..
Thanks for following my medical/life journey, even when I don't have the energy to post artwork❤️🖤 Your love and support means so much!!

Update regarding yesterday's post:
I had my annual cardiac appointments, and after my MRI, echo and ECG, the resident was preparing me to have to discuss surgery in the near future due to the 44mm aneurysm measurements.
When the doctor came in(new doctor as mine moved back to England), she said she thinks the physician who read the MRI got the measurements wrong and doesn't believe it's 44mm...and that I shouldn't be as worried - she thinks it's probably closer to 42-43 "like 2-4 years ago".
My doctor said she will email the physician who interpreted the MRI and someone will call me if it turns out to be 44mm and refer me to a surgeon, otherwise I will see her in 18 months... but that I can always request a referral to discuss with a surgeon before then if it makes me feel more comfortable.
Then, my report was amended...the first image is the original report, and the second is the amended report from later in the afternoon. I don't understand the difference/what difference it really makes regarding to possible surgery?
I'm just ao confused and on edge, still kind of expecting a phone call... I think I'm going to request a referral either way, I just feel a bit anxious..
I'll update as soon as I know more.
