Loes (NL, based in Prague; voice & guitar) writes songs about dead frogs (and lots of other dead things), how hearts break, how hearts heal, about the thrill of wandering and yearning for a home, and about how she is always - always - so very sorry.
Solo act: voice & guitar / max. 3x45 min. sets / original material, traditionals & covers
Style: singer/songwriter, acoustic, bluegrass, country, americana, indie pop
Instrument: Collings D1A custom + a voice infused with a mix of smoke, passion and cynicism
Musical heroes: Tim O’Brien, Karine Polwart, Paul Brady, Nic Jones, Mr. Sun, Edgar Meyer
What do her tattoos mean?? The butterfly was inspired by the book & movie “Papillon” and the artwork on her arm and shoulder was created by Alvaro Diaz Delgado. Loes asked him to keep it strictly abstract. It became a minimalist play of lines that connect when Loes bends her arm to play the double bass.
So how do you pronounce her name?! Well... that “oe” in the middle is a diphthong typical of the Dutch language that sounds like the “u” in most other languages. So it’s not “Lo-wess.” Loes rhymes with “moose.” In English-speaking countries it would be Lucy, in France it would be Louise, in the Czech Republic it’s Lucie or Lucka. In Spanish it would sound like the word for “light.”
