DW Racing - High performance Large-Scale racing engines

25/03/2017

Nowadays nearly every 2-stroke engine uses a squish band to optimise the combustion process. The squish band is an small area between the combustion chamber and the piston when the pistion reaches the top dead center. If this area is correctly designed, the squish effekt creates turbulences in the air/fuel mixture, which lead to a more efficient combustion and therefore to more power.

Because of the cost effectiv mass production process of stock engines there are relativly big tolerances on the piston and the cylinder. In order to get the best performance possible and less performance variation between tuned engines it is important to optimise and improve the squish band of stock engines.

Every DW Racing enigne has an optimised squish band. The angel as well as the clearance between the piston and the cylinderhead are modified by precision CNC-machining.

Below you can find a footage of how its done and how it looks like.
